Checklist and Schedule (Updated 06/01/2010)

To-do list PRE-field observations:

  • Schedule a timetable for field observations (URGENT)
  • Create a spreadsheet for data analysis.
  • Note down GPS coordinates of the areas currently under observation and transfer to Google Earth:
    - Kent Ridge Campus 
    - Lornie Drive, MacRitchie Reservoir

    - Rifle Range, MacRitchie Reservoir
  • Print out research permit
  • Prepare field sheet
  • Check on weather updates.
  • Recharge batteries (camera) one day before field observation
  • Do an arrangement with lab mates regarding usage of GPS device & pruners.
  • Article reading

To-do list DURING-field observations:

  • Conduct field observations following field sheet
  • Make a sketch of animals or creatures if not certain about identity
  • Collect at least 30 seeds from the area of interest.
    - Kent Ridge Campus (-/30)
    - MacRitchie (-/30) 
    - (for the top ones, prune using self-made hook or pruners after observation hours)
  • Note down GPS coordinates of sampled area – currently 2:
    - Kent Ridge Campus (6 locations)
    - Lornie Drive, MacRitchie Reservoir (1 location)
    - Rifle Range, MacRitchie Reservoir (2 locations)
  • Make at least 30 observations of birds (especially the smaller ones) picking finished a single fruit.

To-do list POST-field observations:

  • Analyze results
  • Count number of seeds (if any) 
  • Blog about day’s work
  • More article reading 
  • UROPS report (before reading week sometime in April)

Things necessary during field observation:

  1. Binoculars
  2. Camera
  3. Seeds’ container/Ziploc Bag (small ones)
  4. GPS device (when seed-collecting)
  5. Notebook
  6. Field sheet
  7. Mosquito repellent (and possibly, sun block)
  8. Water and snacks
  9. Umbrella/cap (in case it rains)
  10. Research permit

  12. Pruners (during seed collection)/Self-made pruner
  13. Small weighing machine
